Value of the Arts: The IB Perspective

"The visual arts are an integral part of everyday life, permeating all                                   levels of human creativity, expression, communication and                            understanding."

                                                                                                                                                             - IB Visual Arts Guideline

We are excited to offer the International Baccalaureate Programme at GCVIThe International Baccalaureate Programme is an internationally renowned diploma programme that focuses on global mindedness and developing strong thinkers. The IB Visual Arts course at GCVI encourages students to challenge their own creative and cultural expectations and boundaries. They are expected to explore and compare various perspectives and contexts, experiment and think critically upon a wide rage of practices and theories.

It is a thought provoking course in which students develop analytical skills in problem solving and divergent thinking, while working towards technical proficiency and confidence in the arts.

Over the 2 years of the IB Programme, the Visual Arts course is assessed in three major components that are marked in combination externally and internally:

             1. Comparative Study

             2. Process Portfolio

             3. Exhibition of Work

During their time at GCVI, IB Visual Arts students will be placed in various OSSD courses that specialize with specific mediums and techniques, ranging from Media Arts and emerging Technologies to Drawing and Painting within the traditional mediums of watercolour and acrylic paints. At the end of the programme, students will curate their completed pieces to showcase their own personal artwork in a self-directed art exhibition.
